Yes, you definitely should. Doctors won't give such exams when you're having your cycle.

A pelvic exam is when they palpate (feel) the lower part of your abdomen. They are looking for bumps and lumps and to see if their is any tenderness or pain. (from here they can feel the uterus as well as the ovaries. No clothing needs to be removed and whether or not you are on your period doesn't matter. (They may ask you to unzip jeans or lift a shirt a bit, but no clothing needs to be removed).
What they use the speculum for at the gynecologist's office is not for a pelvic exam, but to take a sample of cells from your cervix. This will tell them if your cervix is /is not normal (pre-cancerous, cancerous, healthy). They can also check for visible signs of std's (if you are sexually active). Make sure that the vaginal area is nnot inflammed (yeast infection, UTI, other things besides STD"s can cause vaginal inflammation). This is not something that a pediatrician would ever do. Even if he/she felt it was time for you, she/he wouldrefer you to a gynecologist. If you are healthy, most young women will need to see a gynecologist yearly beginning between17-19 or when they are thinking about becoming sexually active, whichever comes first.
So the short answer is no, you don't necessarily need to reschedule. However, if you are going to get a urine test, you should let them know. They may decide to reschedule the entire exam or have you come back next week to pee in the cup and run your urine at that time.

A back to school physical usually does not involve a pelvic exam. Keep the appointment. If your doctor wants to do a pelvic exam (for other reasons), schedule that particular exam for a different day.

Two other options: go and just tell the nurse or doctor that you are having your period. They get this all the time....I know that they don't like to do urine tests during someone's period because the results aren't clear (no pun intended). If they were planning on a pelvic, they'll tell you whether they can do one or not, AND you can just say you'd rather not have one today.Second option, call and tell them your situation and they will suggest what's best to do.

They probably won't give you a pelvic exam, most likely they will tell you to go to the gyn if they think you need one.

If it's just a normal physical there would be no reason for her to give you a full GYN exam. I'm sure you'll have to give a urine sample so make sure the nurse knows you are menstruating. I wouldn't reschedule.

They may be if you are on any type of birth control pill. If not, they may just get your weight. height, blood pressure, temperature, check your reflexes and that sort of thing. Usually around the time you are 18 if you aren't on any type of birth control will they start doing a pelvic exam. but they will start those sooner if you are on birth control.
Good Luck

No pelvic exam, but you should schedule one with a GYN. Better safe than sorry!

No. She will check your heart & lung function, listen to your digestive function (with the stethyscope), press on your abdomen, check your thyroid, look in your ears, nose, throat & check your eyes. She will take an oral report of any complaints you might have and will ask a series of questions. She may order a blood draw and perhaps a urine sample, but that's it. Also, she may have you get any immunization boosters you need.
Be aware that if she does ask for urine, be SURE to tell her that you have your period, since they would most likely be checking for blood, protein and sugar in your urine, and they cannot diferentiate between period blood and blood from a kidney/bladder ailment.

A pediatrician shouldn't give you a pelvic exam (especially for a physical)
