One day my engine light is on, then it's off. When i drive, it sometimes cuts off. I will start it up again very easily, to only have it stall again a few minutes later. I changed my gas filter, but to no avail. Thsi is frustrating, i cannot go anywhere without holding up traffic.

Could be a number of things - I need more vehicle information - make/model etc.

Most of the time when that kind of thing happens - it is a sensor.

The majority of newer cars have overhead cams, and interference engines - meaning that if they jump time, the pistons will break the valves off.

To keep that from happening there will be a cam position sensor, and a crank position sensor on the engine. The idea being that if the engine jumps time, it won't run.

When one of the sensors starts failing, it will usually let you start and drive, and then once the car starts heating up - it will just shut off. They can be intermittent, and seemingly totally random.

Unfortunately the only way to figure out which one has failed is to replace one - see if it still happens, and then replace the other one. If you put them both in - keep them both. If it still doesn't work after you do both, you can take them both back if you want to get your money back. - and then keep troubleshooting.

There are quite a few other things that it could be - but that is definitely where I would start.

Sounds like the EGR valve to me. Yank it, clean it, and put it back in. See if that helps.

If it only happens when warm, I'd go for the coil next.
