I'd say keep it friends for a while. You can chat and get to know each other. Online girlfriends are too unreal to be successful. They aren't taken seriously, because in reality, they're not! You're best bet is to just chat as friends and maybe in the future something can happen.
But I agree with these other answers: Tell him! Let him decide what he wants to do and respect what he wants.

Thats how it felt when I met my wife although our 1st date was a nightmare, we were totally comfortable with each other straight from the start. It only took me 4 weeks to propose to her and we were married after 2 years. There are no awkward silences between us - when we row we talk rather than shout even if either of us have something very important to say

Yes. That is how it was with me and my current boyfriend. We instantly felt like we knew eachother for years and were just so dang comfortable around eachother. We just let the relationship take its natural course and didn't say anything because we were so close that no words were needed. We both knew how we felt and just enjoyed, and still enjoy, the moments.
PS-he is 7 years older than me. I am 23 and he is 30.

Yes I have. The age difference is not a problem.
I suggest you relax and see how things develop. He needs to feel attracted to you. Also you do not want to seem desperate or exploitable.
You should encourage the process of course, I don't mean ignore him! Treat him as you would treat anyone else that you found attractive. Suggest doing things together, such as hiking, biking, going to a play etc.
When you know him well, you can disclose how deep you felt it when you met him.

Well, I met this guy once that was like 14 years older than me. we clicked from the beginning, and I told him right as he was telling me! We have now been together for almost 4 years and married for almost one! We got married on our 3 year anniversary, and it has been bliss! Tell him, they will never know if you keep your mouth shut. Good Luck!

Yes, I have...actually it's kinda strange because most connections that are made as soon as you've met, tend to become interesting regardless of the age, I have feelings for a woman who is younger then me, but even tho she acts like it is weird I think she has some feelings for me....my advice is if you really want to tell this person how you feel just do it,all he can say is thanks or no thanks then you won't have to wonder anymore about his feelings.
Peace.

i think it may be bad judgment i wouldn't rush into this if i where you spend some more time with this person you don't want to change everything for this one person and then find out after spending more time with him that you aren't as keen on him as you once thought.
