looking for a (80's?) zombie flick. an asteroid or comet passes and turns everyone to dust or zombies...?

end of the world type scenario; people fully exposed turn to dust/sand, people half exposed turn into murderous zombies and people not exposed are ok. this happens overnight and the survivors have to face the zombies. i think i remember that at the end the survivors get a ferrari or something and drive off into the sunset... any ideas?

"night of the comet" comes to mind. i used to watch it when i was little, like around 84 or 85. . .everyone turned to dust except for a few people, like this guy and this chick who are inside some kina bunker thing. i remember at the end they are in a car and the guy runs a red light because he figures there aren't anymore live people around, but he almost gets hit by someone whose license plate indicates he is the one who, earlier in the movie, beat the guys score in some arcade game. that's about all i remember.

Night of the Living Dead. There are several versions.

Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Night of the Comet, etc. etc.

Night of the Living Dead is the original. It was shot in black and white and remade in color.

Its a great movie in either format.

It sounds as though you may be talking about one of the other versions, though. Like Day of the Dead or Night of the Comet. So, check them out in wikipedia. Night of the Comet was made in 1984. Day of the Dead was made in 1985.
