I went to an Indian Restaurant in Rochester, NY that was spotless! But that seems to not be the rule.

i find the cheaper the food the more likely the place is to be dirty. the more upscale indian restaurants are cleaner, just like any restaurant. i find fast food restaurants to be some of the most filthy.

pity the person who said indians are dirty. have you ever been to some places in the backwoods of the american south? seems people can afford cigarettes and beer but not soap and water - i'm using this stereotype as an example :)

It all depends on type of people who manage it and up to certain extent frequent it. In general across the type of eateries, there is a tendency of keeping the cost down on the expense of hygiene and labour. Indian cooking does involve lots of ingredients and needs much more effort directly leading to increased cost. Also, you may be surprised but most of the so called 'Indian Restaurants' are run by other nationals. Mostly real indian restaurants I found it to be very neat and tidy.

I think its because they know their food is THE BOMB. So, they don't really care about anything other than that and their incenses
