I was doing alphabet cards last night with my grandson...came to the 'S' and the first thing that came out of my mouth was "And that is a shark" in which he replied..."No grandma, I think that is a swordfish"
This is the same child at the age of two helped me open a DVD case....do we have a very smart child, or a very stupid grandma?! LOL

Ok...first off,I'm not smarter then a 4 year old...my 9year old daughter proved that 5 years ago...second,yes you do have a very smart child there and third you are not dumb but a very smart woman...you just might need a new prescription for those glasses of yours!....BIG HUGS to you:):):)

Lol- that is so cute!!!! I think we have all had those moments. Children always think outside the box, that's probably why while you saw the shark he saw the "TYPE" of shark. As far as the DVD case, in your defense some of them are hard, but again your grandson just grew up with them, if you showed him a VHS tape I am sure he would look at you like you had 3 heads. I'm sure your grandson is VERY smart, but these situations happen to the best of us.

You have a very smart child. And no, you are not a stupid grandma. It's just that it is very easy for adults to forget that a a child's basic intelligence is still present even though the child has not worked out all of the details of being able to express themselves yet.

Kids brains are like sponges, always absorbing all that is around them. That is a perfect example of a child that was listening to some educational program and picked it up when you thought they were not listening.
We must be careful what our children see, watch on T.V , movies and hear. They are never too young for their little computerized brains to pick up and learn something you would rather them not.
Fortunately this time it was good information that your 4 year old heard and learned. Once in the brain, it cannot be removed but the information is stored forever.
Yes, grandma better be signing up for night classes and take up a second language if she hasn't already. :o)

It depends -
I did post graduate work at Harvard University, I have an MBA from a Top 25 school, and my wife has a degree from an Ivy League college.
YET, we both get our butts kicked by our daughter in "Memory"...bty - she is FIVE!!!
I think in some areas (like cognitive retention), kids are smarter than adults! (Because they don't have to worry about bills, work, health, money, etc).

LOL!! Cute! I don't know about granny's I.Q. but no doubt you have a smart grandchild! I miss the old Art Linkletter show; "Kids Say The Darndest Things". Today's kids would give him a run for his money for sure!!
