Science has made progress in genetics, and it is becoming more and more apparent, nearly to a certainty scientifically speaking, that people are indeed born gay.
The often mocked physical traits of some gay people - men with high, lilty voices and a slight lisp, and the deep voice and muscular frame of some lesbians, for example - are often present in gay people to one extent or another. These are not things they pretend to have, or make up just so they can appear gay, they are a part of the person's physical makeup.
Some men are born to be very muscular and masculine, others to be smaller and less masculine. Why couldn't some men be born to be on the extremely less masculine end of the bell curve? Some women are born to be very dainty and feminine, some are born to be muscular athletes. Why couldn't some women be born on the extremely masculine side of the bell curve?
Be logical for a second (not you, asker, your readers). No one would choose to live a life of being persecuted, mocked and hated, sometimes brutalized or even murdered, just so they could have some non-traditional or "illicit"sex. It is not about sex. It is about who they are.
It is a shame that segments of society, particularly Christians, strive so hard to persecute these people and to deprive them of the same human rights that they expect for themselves.

Meh, sexuality is mostly determined at birth prenadally (sp?). That's the working theory anyway. Granted, there ARE people who choose it because they're stupid and don't like guys. But I think they must have a certain degree of homosexuality to have done that. I've known one or two people who have claimed to choose to be lesbians because guys are evil or some such stupidity. At any rate, in addition to that being born gay thing, I think most people are actually more like, a certain degree of either. It's not Gay, Straight or Bi. It is more like a sliding scale of where you are. Myself, I'm Bi, but find women more attractive, whilst finding men easier to understand. So, I could go either way. Not sure I have a preference. Maybe women.

You know, scientists keep finding genes to prove things and I believe there may be a gene in the brain that predtermines your sexuality. It just makes sense. Why would a 10 year ld boy like boys nstead of girls and vise versa when the rest of his buddiesare in high gear all about girls? It has to be a gene. That doesn't mean that you got it from your Mom and she's realy a lesbian and never acted on it, It just means the gene is in the make up of all people and something affects it before we are born, probably during conception, that early, and it helps define who we will be. Our brains determine our personality, why not sexuality? I believe. It's like addiction, you either have the gene or you don't, you either have the ACTIVE gene or you DON'T. GOD BLESS US THAT AREN'Tper say "PERFECT" ...I have the addict gene and I was a substance abuser of hydrocodone, never went to the streets for drugs thank god, just my doctor, but now I'm an Addict for life. BUT I AM CLEAN& I HAVE BEEN FOR 2 YRS so blah blah blah to society who says I'm nothing!!!
Pardon me venting, you touched a sore spot...Grady is a lucky guy to have you..love him for who he is and NO he cannot help who he is. You are who you are period. Thanks for being his friend,I'm sure he has lost some if he has told them recently...you find out who your friends are when you open up and show people who you are. Hats off to you..Good Friends are HARD TO COME BY...remember that when someone tries to tell you he's no friend for you to be hanging out with. Be there for him like you haveand I believe good things will come to you in time.
Reading the above answers....America needs to have each and every person(IDIOT) stop and look in the mirror at themselves and then ask if they ahave the right to evenanswer your question or others!! People can be so obnoxious!! I thought we were here to help...if not...go to Google they have a forum!!

no, i just had a class earlier today that my professor had explained to me that gay is not an abnormal thing but something in the past just stick in your mind and cannot remove it, and there are some aspect that affect it, some like your father doesn't know your gay, your lady friends know your gay, your officemate know your a guy. then you are still in an area were you cannot determine if your a guy or a girl. then returning to the point, in your early days as a infant from 0 - 3 years of age i think, and this you could say critical were if sometime there, your mom just put a dress in when you were still young even a minute, and now it would let u think what i am and why do i have this penis, and think that it could be remove and you were a women and your penis can be remove and so on and on..... :D

I don't believe sexual orientation is a choice. You cannot force yourself to be attracted to a gender you are not attracted to. Or fall in love with someone.
You can however make yourself have sex with someone of the same sex but that doesn't make you gay. How you truly feel is what defines sexual orientation, not the actions you take. One can be a virgin and be gay or bi just like a straight person can.
And science is still working on why people have different sexual orientations but it is already well established that it is definately not a choice.

i dont think anyone will ever know the answer. Even gay people really dont know becuase if its genetic its allways been there and if it is enviromental it has been something developed from a young age slowly, so it feels natural.
And really it doesn't matter anyway as long as people are happy that all that counts.
Also if it were proved to be genetic it could have horrific consequnces as they could try and find the gene and eliminate it so even gay people should be happy with the staus quo.

I think you're born gay, just because of the scientific evidence behind it.
Either way, I don't really care if it's genetic or a choice. Gay people should be proud of who they are no matter what. I don't see anything wrong with it.

I think in most cases, people are born gay. But I have to say I do know several women who felt they had been burned too many times by men and turned to a lesbian lifestyle. Maybe they too were always gay, but just weren't ready to accept it until their experiences with living "straight" were terrible? Hard question to answer, but the important thing is no matter what, gay or straight, it's all perfectly acceptable and love is love is love.

wow this question's getting kinda old... who would choose to be gay and voluntarily put themselves in potentially harmful situations? I love being gay, but it's not easy and wouldn't have 'chosen' this... people ask this question all the time but many don't seem to beleive the asnwer... when did you choose to be straight? when did you choose which hand you preferred to write with? when did you decide to have the color hair you have? who knew such important decisions were being made by infants...
