Most people are going to second hand stores and buying used ski poles. These are sturdy, and are true "poles", and are therefore perfectly suited to the growing of pole beans. Color is not important.

I've had good luck with any of the tall sunflower varieties. The sunflowers shed there lower leaves as the beans mature, so you can see the beans to harvest. RScott

Plant them around your fruit trees and tomato plants for superb nitrogen in the soil!
I trim off my tomatoes leaving only branches where there are buds or fruits, and pole them. The peas and beans grow just fine along with them.

My Grandmother used cane poles for hers.Then one year she used some hog wire and made a arch for her to reach in and pick.That was her creation,it worked for her.Hope this helps...

not sure if pole beans are heavy but what i use for green beans wax beans and pea pods are dowel rods. maybe they will work for you

you can use bamboo; redwood stakes. make a teepee, tie the top and secure the middle of it with a brace, using the same material.
