WASHINGTON - Despite low approval ratings and hard feelings from last year's elections, Democrats and Republicans in the House are reaching out for an approximately $4,400 pay raise that would increase their salaries to almost $170,000.

Absolutely not! anyone else who had a poor job performance rating would not get a raise and might even be fired. I'm so glad they can get together on this pay raise but can't get ANYTHING done for America.

At least SOME of the Republicans TRIED to stop the pay increase, NONE of the Democrats did.

They are hopelessly out of touch with the rest of America and what the wages are. They get a nice retirement just after a few years and health care.

If they had to live more on an average wage, then maybe neither party would spend or tax so much and learn what living is like away from the feed trough.

The only serving either party does is to themselves or their buds. When the general public is against something strongly and overwhelmingly such as immigration reform, they still try to cram it down out collective throats with a bill they want ( both parties) for new citizens ( voters).

The dirt-low approval rating makes me suspect that they have NOT earned this! In the future, perhaps, their pay raises need to be based on approval ratings.

Maybe they are paid too little. The average CEO of a fortune 500 corporation gets tens of millions a year.

Congress is way too susceptible to the form of legal bribing known as special interest groups. They spend far too much time fund-raising to get re-elected, and in doing so make promises to powerful people and groups whose interests are contrary to their constituency.

If they got $25 million a year to listen to the people, they might actually do it.

No!!! They haven't earned this. I would like to see our military getting a pay raise. They are the ones really doing all of the work.

Did you complain over the past several years when the Republican Congress got annual pay raises for doing nothing?

2007-06-28 10:41:55 · answer #7 · answered by Anonymous · 0 2

they should get paid based on their approval ratings , everyone gets a 50% paycut until they have a 80% approval rating . That is how a lot of us get paid , I have yet to find a job to where I get a raise regardless of performance

They don't have to "seek" a pay raise; it's automatic. That way, they don't have to say they voted themselves more money.
