Most pop stars lip-sync. The reason is that many of them really can't sing very well and certainly can't reproduce the perfect sound that audiences expect. The crowd expects an exact duplicate of the video or CD, but those recordings have been processed, the off-key notes 'repaired', timing 'improved' and all sorts of other defects fixed. On top of that remember that nowadays, musical talent is not a requirement for pop stardom. If Britney didn't have great PR, and an enormous organization behind her, do you think she'd last one night in a bar band in Toledo? Lip-sync pal is what you get....

She can't sing very well. These pop stars who can't really sing come up with a decent recorded cut using studio tricks and then lip-synch on stage and rip the people off. They use the lame excuse that they can't sing live because they're dancing around too much. What are background dancers for? Let them dance and the "singer" can sing (or try to).

She probably used the standard excuse which is that you can't sing and do dance choreography at the same time. Hello.....that's what back-up dancers are for. But, seriously, I have had the displeasure of hearing her sing live on MTV once when she was promoting one of her albums and it was terrible.

I think she might have mentioned it back when that was a big incident but I thought it was because she was afraid she'd mess up or run out of breath to sing and dance at the same time.
