Don't freak out yet, after this goes on for awhile you will get use to the loud music and might even learn to like it!
I've been through it and I'm older than you, and I listen to what ever my son puts on the radio and l like it. This is what you have to tell yourself, unless you can accept the fact of becoming your Mother.
But really, if it was Akon, he is really good!
I'm not sure your daughter spelled the name right, I've never heard of that group. " OMG I'm slipping into being my Mother again." Never admit that to anyone but yourself, and keep saying, "I'm not old, I'm not old, I'm not becoming my mother"
Your hearing is just better than your kids.!
It makes a difference if you have a good stereo system or not.
It sounds great in my car!
Good Luck

your funny - i think i was born old and if i ever become my mother i will check myself into a clinic for crazy people! I actually tell my kids stuff i never thought i would say too, i say I'm becoming a mature, good parent..... not an old fogie! I would guess going and blasting your type of music sometime will freak them out, and probably embarrass them - that's always fun! My kids always look at me like i am crazy, sometimes smiling at me only to make me feel better when i am doing something that isn't "cool".

And do you yell at them for not turning off the lights? Actually I didn't start feeling old until the cops and doctors started looking like high school kids. Unfortunately that happened a long time ago. Oh well.

I know how you feel. I find myself becoming more like my mother everyday (help!!) my kids are the exact same age as yours and the same thing happens in our house as well. They have started walking in front or behind me because I am their mother and I'm not cool. I just go open a beer and sit back and think I remember when I was the cool and hip one.

Yeah you did it, its funny I was raised by my grandmother and she definitely did not want the music up loud but somehow I let her listen to it at low levels and read liner notes to her so she knew the songs I liked. Some of the stuff today I swear I wouldn't let my grandmother listen to now as an adult it stinks and I don't see the writing quality.

You're not old! The music was probably annoying. A lot of it these days IS "crap". I imagine that the reason you said to turn it down was that you just needed a moment of peace and with small children, sometimes that's difficult to get.

Hey 34 is not an old fogie. They will go through the same thing. I'd say embrace the change!

Not to worry! I am 49 and have 4 kids (19-24) and I have been through all this. It will come back around. Not only will they play stuff that you think is 'crap'...they will also play it very loud. Just guide them back to 'the good stuff' and relax.

Ha Ha! You are a parent! Now your kids can exact revenge on you on behalf of YOUR parents!

Or you can work on out-weirding your kids by listening to Big Band-Techno-Thrash-Country music by a band called "Michael Mucous and the Phlegmdanglers". Play it on a stereo system with the speakers submerged in the fish tank. HOoo Ha!
