no, if you wore underwear, how would the baby come out?

You can wear underpants until you have to push, or your water breaks.
I wore pants and a shirt until I got into the tub and then I labored in a towel. I couldn't bear the thought of getting dressed again.
I also am modest and didn't want my 'gina hanging around while nurses and midwives and the lady delivering lunch popped in and out of my room.
The other thing you can do is limit the number of people who come into your room. Close the curtain and put a "Wait to be invited " sign on the door.
But if you are afraid of your Doc seeing your 'gina, you should get a different doctor. This doc is going to see everything, and you need to be comfortable with that. See if you can find someone who won't make you uncomfortable.
Good luck!

They will let you keep them on until you change into your gown and socks! Even when people are just checked into the hospital(not for birth) they are required to take their underwear and bra off(if they're a woman)! Its a liability for the hospital so they eliminate as much as they can to get caught on. Not only that but as soon as your 1cm dialated they will be checking you about every 20-30 minutes and they will cut your underwear off if you try to leave it on. Don't be surprised if they have to remove all jewlery and make up also. Another thing is they might tell you to remove all nail poilsh. Its just incase you need to go into surgery they don't have to wait for you to take everything off!

Only if you don't want the baby to come out, in which case a strong elastic fabric may be best.

Of course, your body may have some other things in mind, so don't be surprised if doing this causes an awful lot of pain...

But seriously, if you're modest (or shy), just drape a towel over yourself when the medical personnel aren't working on you.

When I had my son, the hospital dumped all of my outside clothes in a bag and put me in one of those lovely open-backed gowns. It all depends on your hospital, OB/midwife, and their policies.

When it comes down to it, you should be able to wear whatever you want. Remember, you are paying them. Obviously, the underwear will have to come off before the baby is born, but you may be in labor for hours. You ought to be comfortable. I have heard of women who leave theirs on specifically to discourage regular checks, which can lead to infections, and are not really a great indicator of progression, since women can vary greatly in how long they take to dilate.

No. How could you? There's a baby coming out, the underwear would be in the way.

trust me, when you are in labor, the last thing you are going to be worried about is your underwear! but no you wont even want to keep them on because eventually your water is broken, you may need a foley catheter and etc.

no they ask you to remove your undies when you go in so the doctor can check you and all. not only that you also have a lot of discharge and bleeding so it's kinda like being on your period and it wouldn't do any good to wear them. they will give you a water proof pad to lay on while in the bed so you don't have to worry about getting the bed messy.

You can wear whatever you want, but why would you want to? It's going to be icky and slimy and you'd need to be up changing pads often and have to take them off for every check - big hassle.
