The muscle is usually due to muscle fatigue or eccentric contraction in a game or direct trauma. To prevent it,don't overuse suddenly, but do graded exercises and build up stamina. For immediate treatment, stop activity, put an ice pack and rest the muscle. Also, take lots of electrolyte solutions and limit its use for a while.Take medical advice if the problem is more severe.NSAIDS and muscle relaxants will help.
