BT get theirs running in 2 days sometimes.....but the 2 weeks is pretty standard - normally 10 working days. That's for BT to put the line on for any company.

Most broadband service providers take between 5-8 working days to sort out a connection for you and set you up at home. AOL would come in as average..Tiscali and Orange are pretty much the same whereas BT Broadband might be slightly quicker in setting up your connection to the exchange. But BT seem to give more problems for the first couple of weeks after connection.

However, its not really about who starts the quickest or who sets you up the quickest..its about who gives you the fastest most reliable service. Every provider has to go through BT Telecom's exchange - except those that provide cable and wireless digital services like SKY.

If I was you, I would contact a few others including Tiscali and Orange and see what results you get from them..and then decide.

One final point. With AOL -which is a pretty good service provider- you have to use their software when using the Internet on your PC- whereas most others use Internet Explorer to surf the Web.

This question cannot be answered without more info.

Check with your telephone company and see if DSL is available and at what speeds and costs.

Check with your CATV company and see what cable internet services they offer and at what speeds and costs.

Check with DirectTV and DISH network to see what they offer and at what speeds and costs. These are satellite based and are not as capable or dependable as is a wired service.

Fastest is a relative term; how you use it may render one service that has a nameplate speed that is faster actually perform about the same as one with a nameplate speed that is slower.

My recommendation is to look at speed, cost, and your use plan and make a prudent economic and performance decision.
