Mika Brzezewski, MSNBC newscaster, became livid when she had to run the story about Paris Hilton getting out of jail over recent developments in the war.

Is this type of "news" more important than other current events? Or should it stay in the entertainment news only?

Should not be there at all. PH is a celebrity ONLY because people like to take pics of her - then get paid to babble mindlessly.

One of the worst problems with this opiate we call "News" is the infusion of entertainment - rather than admit that they are keeping us stupid, they call it "Infotainment" and pretend it's important with graphics that say "Alert!" Meanwhile, real news like govt corruption is given superficial lip service.

The corruption goes unpunished and voters swallow lies and if you try to broadcast REAL news you're called "Liberal Media" and accused of treason. That's what happened to Dan Rather, Bill Moyers & Phil Donahue.

The news shouldn't focus on Paris Hilton, this give her more notoriety just because of her money & it should remain in the entertainment section. The war & other goings on in the world is important but what about a more positive spin on news in general. Unfortunately this doesn't sell news .

The media gives importance to what people want to see, not what the media think is important. On the day of Hilton's release, more people wanted to see the news about her release than those who wanted to see other world events. A lot of people don't know who Paris Hilton is. At the same time, a lot of people don't know who Tony Blair is.
