I did this a few months ago. Been with this guy for almost 6 years, he and his ex have been apart for almost 8. He thought the divorce was final, when we tried to get the marriage license he needed his divorce decree, when he went to the courts to get a copy they let him know that the divorce was never filed. He said he remembered signing all the paperwork, his ex had even made comments about him not showing up for the final hearing(he was out of country). Needless to say, the marriage has been put on hold until the divorce is final. i love him, after 6 years im not going anywhere over something like this. She is dragging it out, so we could be waiting another 6 years.

Well you will just have to wait till the divorce is final! That's what I did when I got married to my second husband whom I love very much they were not together for 3 years but he didn't file for divorce cause he didn't want to deal with it and then I pushed it through. He was on con leave from the army and he was divorced on Sept 16th 2003 and we were married Sept 16th 2003 haha.. sounds strange but we love each other very much and still to this day! Just wait it out and it will go quicker than you think! oh btw I thought he was divorced too he said my ex-wife and all that but he wasn't SO I went down to the courthouse got the paperwork and filled it out with him and it was done within 3 weeks. Good luck sweetie!

Depends on what exactly is "found out". Who dropped the ball in the divorce? And, why is it not final. Court scheduling? Lawyers bickering? In the game of life once things are out of our hands and murphy has a chance at it anything can happen. If this is not a direct result of something that your snicklefritz has done or not done then work with him to resolve any problem. If he is dragging his feet or obfuscating the situation then it might be that you should rethink your whole situation as it applies to and/or includes him. Marriage is like two mules plowing a field; if they are not working in tandem the field will never get plowed. If you are having trouble getting harness on him then he may not be broken to lead yet.

Depends on if he knew about it. If that's the case, it seems he is already keeping things from you. That means you probly don't want to marry him anyway.
OR
It is possible to not know. Example being that my ex filed while I was travelling for a job I had taken after we seperated. He didn't know my whereabouts, and had to place an ad in the newspaper to see if I would respond. ( which I heard through the grapevine) When I didn't they were going to proceed with the divorce. He didn't show up to the final divorce hearing. I went back to my hometown 2 years later. I went to the courthouse to pick up my divorce papers, only to find out I wasn't divorced!
So depending on which one of those is your case is how you should handle it.

What is the reason for the divorce not being final? Is it because thats his choice, or that its just the paperwork that needs to go through! If you love him, then maybe push the date back, make sure he is legally divorced by the time you get married!

You must wait until his divorce is final. If you marry him now, you're marriage will not be considered valid.

Be very upset with him since he was lieing to you. Call off the wedding and refuse to talk to him or see him until the divorce is final. He should not have jerked you around like that.

Don't plan to marry him. How can one conveniently forget to attain a divorce? How could he not inform you of that? It seems like you may have a trust issue brewing.
