I want to know what could be a reason for me not getting my period. I'm 16 now and had my first period when I was 14, 2 years ago...and it's been very irregular. I had it every 5-6 months or so..and the last time I had it was 6 months ago. I've also lost alot of weight since last year. I am 5'1", small boned, and weigh 95 pounds. I was 110 last year and according to my Mom, I'm not getting my period because I have too little body fat. Is this true or could there be other reasons? If so, what are they?

My period has ALWAYS been abnormal so would gaining some fat make it normal?? My Mom also refuses to take me to a gynecalogist because she believes if I gain fat and be 110 pounds again, I'll get my period... do you need fat to get your period? Do skinny people get their periods? What other reasons could be for me not getting my period? Is 95 pounds too little?

Weight loss and gain will effect your hormones which in turn effect your periods. Go to a doctor just to be checked on.
There can be problems that aren't noticeable to you!
Like cysts on the ovaries.

It would probably be best to see a doctor or nurse. If your mother refuses to take you perhaps you can make an appoinment with your school nurse? There may be a government run service relating to sexual health that you can make an appointment with yourself, but there may be a fee involved.
Weight can be an issue but so can other factors so it is probably best to get it checked out by a professional. If you are trying to control your weight to keep it low that could be an issue as well. Have you lost weight through choice or is it something that has just naturally happened as you have grown?
I don't think there is anything such as a normal weight, everyone is different so their is no standard weight, muscle mass and various other factors may affect a persons weight. 2 people of the same height and size may have different weights.

Sweety sweety sweety...... If getting skinny was all I needed to do to not have a period.... I'd be all over it! Just about every young girl goes through this... The first few years of your life your period WILL be abnormal. It has nothing to do with how SKINNY you are.. Your body itself is not on a schedule yet because its still developing. Think about it..... Your body on average (for a girl/women) will not finish growing and developing until about 22-23 years of age. I'm a 23 about to be 24 year old mother in med school and I am just now to the point where I can track my period. Your fine don't worry about "putting fat on", seriously.... If any thing be thank full that you only have it once every couple months, because as you get older, your seriously going to miss it!! LOL

It is true that if you have very little body fat , your body may stop having periods as a protection from a pregnancy it knows it can't handle...it 'thinks' you may be starving so doesn't want to add to the burden. Isn't the human body amazing? That being said, you don't sound that underwight for your height...try to talk with a doctor for your own peace of mind. Your health is important and you need to start taking care of yourself now so that your future will be the best it possibly can be.

take it from someone who been there. when i was your age i am much older now (a lady never reveals her real age lol :-) any way I weight about 90 bl when i was 15. got my first period at 13 and never get it again. My mother took me to the Dr. and they had to put me on medication. you see at that weight I was anemic (not enough blood in my system) they put me on a special diet with high protein food that help me put on some weight. my advise is to get your mother to take you to see a Dr. and take it from their. don't wast time thinking that its nothing, if you are not having your period every month then it's a big problem. hope that help take care.

Why you lost weight is the question. If you are taking drastic steps tp lose weight, malnutrition may be a reason for irregular period. Other than that, endocrine abnormalities, like thyroids, pituitary etc. are the reasons. I think you should go for a thorough c/up. Good luck!
