Why is the sky blue? Seriously!

this is due to scattering

when light reaches the earth it get scattered in all direction.the blue region with low wavelength and high frequency scatters the most.and is visible to our eyes.

where as the red region scatters the least.it does not reach the line of our vision.

the sea is blue because it just reflect the color of the sky above.not the opposite way.

you may ask why the clouds are white.it is because they contain tiny droplets of water capable of reflecting light of all wavelength.any substance which reflect all colors appear white.so clouds appear white.

i think i talked too much..did i help?

This is grade 9 science, for all you people who got it wrong, ;) The sky is blue because the solar spectrum consists of a number of colors. The color blue's wavelengths are on the bottom, or closer to the earth, so as they go past those are the ones you see. This is a very simple non confusing way of explaining it.

from phyiscs point of view.. first u need to understand that light comes in different wavelengths. blue belong to short wavelength n red long. when light enters the earth it is being refracted into waves of different spectrum. we see the sky as blue because when u look up the distance between u n the sky is the shortest therefore u onli see the short wavelength (blue). however during sunset or sunrise it is at the horizon. furthest from u, u will only observe the long wavelength (red). cheers

A clear cloudless day-time sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light. When we look towards the sun at sunset, we see red and orange colours because the blue light has been scattered out and away from the line of sight.

I will never cease to wonder why it isnt green. The ocean is green and green is closer to blue in the spectrum of light than to red.

Perhaps it's just the composition of molecules - Nitrogen and Oxygen ?

if im not mistaken, its because the light passing through the sky reflects the color of the ocean, resulting to the blue color of the sky...
