A cape is a relatively simple project. I wouldn't use wool, I would go to www.maldenmillsstore.com and look up windblock. This stuff is waterproof and will last for years. For the lining you could use a wicking material. Find what you like and request swatches.

My daughter rides and I made her a jacket of windblock that is kind of strange looking unless you are on the horse. It is kind of tailored with a high collar, long sleeves and from the waist down it is almost like a blanket to cover her legs. We live in New England and she rides year round.

Google riding cape, free, patters and see what you find.

Good luck!!!!

A cape is a good first project. The amount of fabric you need depends on the size of the person who will be wearing it. Many craft and fabric stores offer sewing lessons, or you can look in the Yellow Pages under "Sewing Instruction." Good luck and enjoy!

Sure you can... Just go to your sewing store and ask them for patterns for novice sewers... You should do fine...
