It depends on old the dog is you are getting , the means in which you potty train it ,has the dog been recently been weaned from its mother . If so leave a little alarm clock representing the mother 's heartbeat becase it will miss the sound of it. See if you can leave it with you in the room in which you sleep to ward off future loneliness. Cats are more independent than dogs. Dogs if trained properly desire to please you and you must be patient but let themknow right away that the first thing the dog will learn is to give you a sign it has to go to the potty. The reason why is the urine from a dog is acidic and it will ruin a carpet in a hurry. Have plenty of newspapers around, the ones yo can dispose of , in case you are distracted and the dog goes where it crouches. Always have plenty of water and a few small meals a day until it reaches around 3-6 months depending on the breed of dog. Good Luck. You will be fine.

I have a dog but he has to stay with my parents in the country while I'm living in my apartment in the city =(
I do have a cat in my apartment and there is an EXTREME difference in the behavior of cats and dogs. Where cats are very independent and don't like to show when they're excited, dogs are very emotional and can be pretty hyper depending on what breed you get. Cats are also a bit cleaner. I used to be a dog person until I got a cat and now I don't have a preference!
Personally, I think pets are like kids. You have to feed them, clean up after them, and (most importantly) teach them right from wrong. Having a dog is a piece of cake!

Well, I have two dogs, and two cats so I believe that taking care of a cat is somewhat easier, because dogs will constantly try to get your food or someone else's food. (dogs love people food) Also, it is no where close to taking care of a cat. While cats have the litter box, dogs dont have anything to go in so you would have to pick it up, and they sometimes get on your nerves. No doubt, cats are way quieter than dogs, and dogs bark constantly. Cats need less caring for, while dogs need a lot of caring for. Cats are independent while dogs need a lot of attention. If you are responsible, go for the dog, but if you aren't you shouldnt get one.

Yes I do have a dog & no it is not like having a cat. Cats can basically take care of themselves but dogs can not. You have to walk it & feed it & bathe it & play with it. It is much more difficult to have a dog then a cat!!

I have had dogs but not at the moment! I am waiting till my baby gets a little older then I am getting an English Bulldog--which I have to save up for!!
They are more fun that cats!! Make sure if you get a big one that you have plenty of room in the house and yard. Make sure that you have plenty of time to play, and give them attention and train them (which is why I don't have one now, it would take too much time!).
Have fun with your new pet!!

Yes I have a dog, a little brown poodle. Dogs love to have attention. And take her/him to lots of walks, short walks or long walks. If you take her/him to lots of walks, he/she will love you so much and consider you as her/his best leader.
