He's correct--but unfortunately, its a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Here's the REAL reason, as pointed out by another very astute forum member: ( I wish I could take credit for this, but can't)
Third party voters are either not thinking clearly or do not understand how government works. If a third party candidate is ever elected president he would be the most useless piece of furniture in the White House. With no one on his side in the Congress he will be pretty much at their mercy.
Pretty much every third party candidate is either an idealist from some single issue minority group or is running as a spoiler. Right now the only likely third party candidate will be Michale Bloomberg the current Mayor of NYC. He was a life long democrat and switched to republican to run for mayor because he could not get the democratic nomination. He just changed his registration to Independent.
He will probably enter the race if the primary election pits Rudy Guiliani against Hillary Clinton. His job will be spoiler. He will be in the race to make sure Hillary carries New York. The democrats fear Rudy because of how much even liberal Manhattan liberals loved him after 9/11. If too many vote for Rudy, Hillary would not carry her own state in the Electoral College. That would be quite an embarrassment and since New York's eastern time zone votes early they fear such an occurrence would adversely affect her in the West Coast.

They stand for something, it is just that neither party represents you or me. but, then either would Mike Bloom berg.
I'm an independent I never vote party, but I sure wouldn't vote for him.
Americans have to get away from the party influence and think of the issues and how the people running for office will represent everyone not pander to group.
When they pander to group they are saying your are "stupid" because they know you think in a group mentality instead as an individual.
Good example; the immigration bill just failed and already the media has said it will hurt the Republican as Hispanics will not vote for them. What they are actually saying, is all Hispanics are for illegal immigration. Group thinking again. Sad.

As long as Hillary Clinton is a candidate, conservatives will vote for Republicans.
As long as there's a Christian Coalition, liberals will vote for Democrats.
------------------------------------
For a third party to make ground in national elections, the US would have to change to a parliamentary system for electing Congress.
Let me explain: Each party that wants to run gets on the ballot. The seats in Congress would not be allocated on a "winner take all" basis, but rather would be allocated by percentage.
If the Democrats won 52% of the vote, they would get 52% of the seats. Seems fair enough so far, but....
If the Libertarians won 5% of the vote, they would get 5% of the seats (instead of the none they get now because they can't get a majority in any single district)

No, that's utterly ridiculous.
But that doesn't mean I won't vote for him if Hillary is the Dem nominee.
And by the way, I DO detest the Two-Party System (caps deliberate) and DO believe it is harmful to the country.
[added] RWCRUFLER - who are you talking about? Bloomberg isn't on The Hill.

No, he's not. Each party has a clear delineation on where they stand on things.
The fallacy is that libs will say that because the environment or education or other traditional liberal causes are not on the forefront of the republican's mind, that means that republicans want to destroy the environment or what have you. Republicans say the same thing concerning the other side.
You have to remember -- and realise that most people don't think of it this way, but IT IS the way it is. We not only hire politicians to speak for us, we hire them to speak to us and tell us what's going on out there in the world. But the world climate has changed from 100 years ago, and our enemies are now able to watch CNN and find out what's going on here and our strategies in fighting them, etc. In essence, in the last 50 years, we have hired our politicians to lie to us, and to lie to us so convincingly that we THINK they're telling us the truth.
The fact is, if President Bush, Congress, Senate, etc., came out and told us the truth about what's going on, they would all be guilty of treason because they would be aiding the enemy in destroying us.

of course they stand for something...it is not the american people anymore, but they DO stand on their principles of being re-elected time and time again by lying to us. the two major political party's have morphed into one great big fat joke, and that joke is on us...
that said, bloomberg has NO shot at becoming president...

I guess he figured that the republicans stood for something when he came across the opportunity to run for mayor under their ticket.
The man is a typical opportunist.
When opportunity, for him, presents itself as a Democrat, he's a Democrat.
When opportunity, for him, presents itself as a republican, he's a republican.
Now that opportunity, for him, has presented itself as an independent, he's an independent.
Where, will opportunity, for him, present itself next?
