i connect to my neighbors open network. the name of it is call linksys. sometimes i connect to it, and it has a great connection. but more than likely, i cant connect to it for some reason even though it shows up as having great signal when i search for nearby signals. why cant i connect to it, even though it says it has a good signal? i use it from the same spot at around the same time everyday.

What you are doing is illegal in several states. It is unethical all over the world. I guess this shows your ethics and standards. If your neighbor left his keys in his car (which is as foolish as leaving your wireless exposed) would you drive it away?

Your irregular signal strength is due to distance and signal variations due to environmental factors beyond your control.

I suggest you buy your own service. If you go wireless, be sure to impose security or other dishonest people will freeload off you.

Connecting to someone Else's wireless router is against the law in some states, be carefull! It is considered wire taping! The reason you might not be able to connect to his router is he might have only 1 or 2 IP's open for use, if both #'s are in use you will not get to log in... Good Luck!!!

He could have put a password in.... hey, you can't complain about free internet connection, even if you don't get it all the time..... Maybe he's doing something on his end.

You shouldnt get connected to your neighbors' wireless connection unless they are aware of it.
