well, I just read right here on Yahoo news that CHINA has taken America's spot as the NO. 1 Carbon Dioxide-Producing country in the world, so that would suggest that they are the world leaders in AIR pollution. But since their are so many types of different pollution, ie: land, water, air, you should try looking up all of the figures individually, and drawing your own results...and certainly don't be surprised if the good ol' Stars n' Stripes leads the way...

Hmmm...probably America, or China do to population. India is populated, but there is not much industrialization.
There is an international accord limiting the amount of pollution a country can produce based on it's population. The USA traditionally buys or trades for "pollution rights" of third world countries, so we can make more pollution than we are supposed to.
I would gander that the US causes the most pollution, hands down. "Causes" being the key word. China doesn't have an Exxon Valdez.

China beats the US.
But US is second, and we are #1 per person.
But close to last when compared to GDP.
Pollution has given us a lot of prosperity. It is given us medical breakthroughs. Refrigeration. People are living longer-- thanks to our industry.
For all the greatest this country has done for the world... I will take a little pollution. We have very strict regulations to make it is little as possible. But unless we all want to go back to the stone age, we have to have some.
And ACTUALLY, some of the worst pollution PER PERSON is in extremely remote Africa, where they have no industry at all!

China - it has recently surpassed the USA. Pollution is a VERY big problem there, and they are just starting to realize that they have to do something about it because it is causing some very serious problems.

China.
And, contrary to what many publicly-educated individuals believe, the US is the only industrialized nation that produces a greater % of GDP than its % of energy consumption.

Pretty sure it is China. If not now within less than a year. They are building coal power plants constantly.

It depends on what type of pollution, I would say.
I read that China has recently surpassed the U.S. in CO2 emissions.
