Hmmm...
What would you give a player like Derek Jeter who has an African-America (black) dad and an Irish-American mom (white)?
I guess he would be eligible for your award and also the Babe Ruth award that would only be given to white players.
I guess the person that gave me the thumbs down does not understand sarcasm?

There already is a Jackie Robinson award. It's better known as the rookie of the year award.
As for making another award for the best black athlete in baseball, sorry, I don't like that idea.
One, it's racist. I'm not trying to say that you're a racist, so don't get upset. You may not have meant your idea that way. But you wouldn't have an award only for white players, would you? This award would be just as bad.
Also, it's really degrading. If you make a special award for best black athlete, it suggests that they can't win regular awards so a special category has to be made for them, which of course is ridiculous.

The Rookie Of The Year Awards are named in Jackie's honor; he won the inaugural ROY in 1947.
Does a "best black ballplayer" award really serve a purpose? Or just fulfill an agenda? There certainly has been no shortage of melanin-rich players winning ROY, MVP, and even Cy Youngs, over the years.
Would Jackie approve?

Why would you give an athlete an award based on his race? Doesn't make sense. Just because you'd be the best in your race, doesn't mean you should recieve an award. Who would vote for this? Only black players or coaches. Get real man. horrible idea. Like others have stated, if you did this you'd have to have an award for each race. Which is ridiculous. By seasons end you'd pass out 50 more awards not including the ones that should matter. (MVP,ROY.etc.....)

It's an interesting idea. But think about it: Wouldn't you then need to have an award for best Latino player? And the Dominicans don't really consider themselves Latino, so they'd want their own award. And what about the Japanese? And on and on. How about a Jackie Robinson award for the player who has contributed the most to benefit the game of baseball? I think that's something Jackie would have gotten behind.

Great.... that's just what we need another PC-friendly award to point out differences and promote division within the sport. What's next, a Chopstick award for the best Asian player in the MLB? Give me a break with this junk.

It's thoughts and ideas like this that help keep racism a foundation in our society. Nobody should ever be judged for an award, a job, a crime, or anything else based solely on the color of their skin.
The world would be a much nicer place if everyone were colorblind.

I think that idea is terrible. In fact, I think that we should stop pointing out skin color as it relates to everything in life, period. What difference does it make if the person is black, white, yellow, brown, red, or purple? We are talking about people here. The sooner we stop pointing out the differences in people, the sooner this world would be able to get on the path to equality. Stop pointing out the differences in culture, too. I know that differences exist, so do you. Stop bringing up the obvious, it is a waste of time. It does nothing but remind people of injustices done, and the fact that there is so much disparity in this world.
We already have BET, where is WET?
We already have Miss Black America, where is Miss White America?
We already have Ebony Magazine, where is Ivory Magazine?
See what I mean? Put it all to rest. See people as people, not whites, or blacks, or whatever.
You asked what I thought.........
Thanks for taking the time to read my opinion....
Stevo.

No, but a Robinson award for the player that has shown the grit and determination to overcome adversity might work.
