More recently, the term kit has been used to refer to a young rabbit (but some dictionaries refer 'kit' as 'a young, often undersized fur-bearing animal' also used for a young fox and a young ferret!)

Young hares, under one year old, are called leverets, and this term is sometimes informally applied to any young rabbit (rabbits and hares are "cousins"), although most dictionaries define bunny as any young rabbit.

Additional info:
Originally, the word "rabbit" was the word used to refer to the baby animals. An adult was called a "cony." Now the word rabbit is used for both adults and young.

People who breed rabbits call males "bucks" and females "does," the same words that are used for deer.

'Baby rabbit' or 'bunny' are both understood by the common people. I don't think you'd want to be too technical to use 'kit' or 'leveret'!

Now another question is, what is the plural of 'kit'? Is it 'kits' or 'kittens'? That's another discussion.

Kitten is correct for a baby rabbit. Leveret is a baby hare. Where I am u mustn't say "rabbit " it's unlucky. "Them furry things"; "underground mutton" "longears" but never the R word.

i think bunny is a perfectly good word to describe a baby rabbit, but leveret is good if you want to be tricky.
