They probably agree with the GOP on economic issues and certain social issues and just identify with it more than they do the Democrats. Not all Republicans are into social repression. There are atheist Republicans, too, for the same reasons. I imagine they must have a hard time identifying with today's party, but some people will always choose to hang on to a party designation, come hell or high water.
