It depends on where in India u will be visiting....if its metros or big cities, like delhi , mumbai, bangalore.......(too many to mention) card works well, in rural areas ,whichi guess u wont be there for ur holidays, cash is a must..... anyway what i found during my tour to Malaysia in January this year was there's not much difference b/w INdia and Malaysia..... Cities like delhi and bangalore are even better then Kaulalampur in terms of card usage ... but the problem....!!! u wont find much currency exchange centers in INdia as in Kaulalumpur....
have a good tour dear ...wish u a happy Holiday.

Credit cards and Take travellers checks where u can exchange in banks and travelex. AM assuming u are going to major cities. If u go to rural areas, need cash as they may not take credit cards. Also, FYI, u have ATM machiens (cash machines) in major cities. If u want to go to a bank teller, the banks do not open till 8.30-9 AM,
Have a fun trip

Depends on your card and the card issuer.

But you may need to have cash.

Card may not be accepted by all. It is just recently in use in India and in my opinion it has not cached on.

Use card if the fees are not high (exchange rate + other fee per transactions). Identity theft is the other issue to consider, when using the card.

Cash on the other hand, if lost or stolen is unrecoverable, in almost all cases.

Cash is always accepted instrument in all places.

While you can use credit cards for most of your needs in cities, you will require cash in small towns and villages.Hence it is adviseable to have some cash as well. You can take traveller's cheque which can be cashed as and when cash is required.

infrastructure is good taht accepts cash both cards and cash.its better to have cards as it is mostly accepted in many of the places but must have some cash for safety and requirement. banks are in better position to provide cash whenever required. there are various ATM centres too.
