It will be a huge up hill challenge now with Tejeda out for two months. They just don't have enough to be competitive.

It's tough to believe that any team in the AL East can get past the big two. The Yankees are struggling right now but you know they are just looking to spend money on a quick fix to get them in to the playoffs. However, if ever there was a year that another team could make a move it would be now. The Yankees are struggling and the Red Sox are about an injury or two away from a collapse.
Some people believe that, due to the change in manager, a lot of their players will step it up. It all depends on the player of course and it's all speculation but if they can just stay ahead of the Yanks and keep it close they might just have a chance.
Either way I think the MLB has two problems they should definitely take care of. Other than steroids of course. But first they should maybe create another wild card spot. As far as professional sports goes I believe the NBA has way too many playoff teams but the NFL has it just right with one per division and then 2 wild cards. The other things they need to take care of is the difference in salary in teams. You can make your own judgement on whether the Yankees or Red Sox are buying wins when any other team in the league could also be pumping as much money in to their team as they want but the team could definitely use a salary cap or something of that nature.

If the Orioles want to pull it together for a wildcard run, they'd better do it soon. It seems like the offense has more life under new interum manager Dave Trembley. It's summertime and the ball flies at Camden Yards during the summer months, and that seems to play well to guys like Ramone Hernandez, Melvin Mora, and Aubrey Huff who always seemed to hit well in Oriole Park as a member of the Devil Rays.
The Orioles have caught lightning in a bottle with Brian Burress and Jeremy Guthrie as starters who were both origionally slated for the bullpen. Erik Bedard is well, Erik Bedard, I think he's now a proven commodity and I'm glad the Orioles drafted him instead of an AL east opponant.
We are still waiting to see if Daniel Cabrera can finally be consistant, and look out when he does, it will be a long for the opposing teams when that happens on a regular basis.
The bullpen though is in a bit of disoray, with so many injuries to the starting rotation and thus guys being taken out of their roles, add to that closer Chris Ray struggeling this year. He just gives up too many homeruns. He's at the point where the league is starting to adjust to him, and he too is trying to readjust his game, but it's created for some rocky times for the Orioles.
Basically the Orioles have come around with the offense, the starting rotation is generally very good, but the bullpen has trouble maintaining late inning leads. To be a wildcard contender, you have to be strong in all aspects of your game. Basically the wildcard goes through the central with the Tigers Indians and Twins, none of which have week bullpens. All of which can bring it with the starting rotation and the bats.
So as I am an Orioles fan, for a playoff spot, I see an uphill battle, with a bullpen that needs to clamp down more often.

Not this year but the future is looking brighter with McPhail running things. Peter Angelos took a perennial powerhouse and ran them into the ground. One would need an abacus to count the bonehead moves this man has made. Spending money doesn't mean success if that money is not spent wisely. However, the money spent on hiring McPhail was a step in the right direction. They would be wise to start building up the farm system and quit relying on mediocre free agents to bolster weak spots on the roster. There's an old rule in business that if you start today in three years you can start reaping some benefits. I would be looking towards 2009 or 2010 as a realistic year to think playoffs again.

Sorry, NO................
Red Sox year this year, yanks on the skids, no pitching.
However, in the future, with the right Manager the Orioles can and will rebuild. True fans will wait.
Heck, I am a Red Sox fan, look how long I waited.

hey, if they can get their bullpen act together and keep their starting pitching the way they are. Also, get their offense numbers up, i think they have a slight chance of making the wild card. There is no way they will win this division this year.
