Are we really so forgetful that from one year to another we are surprised by this and have to see it on every news show? Sort of like, every time there is a hurricane, it's like major news too, even though we get 10 a year every year. I don't get it.

There's only (maybe) ten news stories. They just rewrite them over and over...

"Scientists predict busy/quiet hurricane season." (pick one option)

"Global warming causes heatwave/coldsnap/rain/snow/wind" (pick one)

"----------- food has been found to be way more fattening than we all thought..." (write in any restaurant name...)

If I had more time, I'd beable to think of more of them. Its just lazy journalism. No offense meant to those who are harmed by wildfires.

Maybe because it's happening. Most news on tv is a repeat of something that's happened before. Murders, rapes, robberies. There isn't much new news. Plus it's big fires, not just little backyard bbq fires, these take 1000's of acres and some homes. People may have family or friends there and need to know on the opposite side of the country.

I just had to answer this question because it is so absurd. The fires and hurricanes are big news little man because of the mind-boggling loss of life and property involved not to mention the high risk to the lives of all of the rescue workers and fire fighters involved. Maybe this has no effect on you personally in your little cave so I guess it shouldn't matter to the rest of the world right?! Sorry to bore you with such trivial natural disasters that ruin countless lives.

It's always big news because of the vast destruction. People's homes and lives are in danger. It's not because people are surprised. It's because people's loved ones live there.

Because they turn acres of beautiful natural green forest into smoldering black dust...

They force hundreds from their homes...

They cost tax payers thousands of dollars...

You wouldn't understand beings you don't live here...
