Absolutely, I believe it's ingrained.
Also, if certain styles (incongruent vibrations?)
are crammed down our throats via overplay
everywhere you go, this has an effect too.
With you on this.

It's no different than your taste in food; it's an individual thing.
Now, I'm a lifelong musician, but I was raised on the big band sound, so even in today's pop and rock, I appreciate good melody, good harmony, innovation with chord structure.
I like simple blues, too, but have no liking for badly made thrash or hip-hop.
I also think that many music lovers and musicians sort of "mature" from light pop to more complex jazz forms.

I believe your taste in music stems from what your parents listened to when you were growing up. And from there your taste evolves.
So in a sense I do think it's just in you. From as far back as I can remember I've loved music. I really listen to the melodies in songs.
But sometimes hearing something over and over again will make you like it or hate it.
I could go on, but I've got to head to work.
Good question though.

Music is the one thing that has no limitations. I love everything, from gladys knight to my chemical romanace to air supply. Music is my healer and inspirations, and it has this effect over people. That old song that reminds of a special place or time, it makes me feel so good. I love music.

It depends on what you grew up listening to. I grew up listening to mainly rap, r&b and reggae, so I favor those genres more. But I have acquired a liking to other genres as well such as rock and pop. What type of music I want to hear depends on what type of mood I'm in. Right now, its early in the morning still, so I like to hear soft music, like r&b or pop or soft rock. Something soothing.

i guess it does rely on what youve been exposed to, and what kind of person you are and what you take away from listening to any music,. as a musician i appreciate anything with some musical skills involved, but am equally happy with a good tune or lyrics, just as long as it has some integrity..

vibrations of my soul! hm! that sounds reasonable. there are certain things that just provoke some feelings, both good and bad inside us. apart from that, you love some things because they awake memories about people, places, events,...
