It's the same when you buy anything technology related. Buy a computer, by the time you have opened the box something new has been brought out that's faster, more efficient and probably £5 cheaper.
I'm afraid it's a trend which is never going to go away.

This is because they want you to see what there is to offer after you buy a new contract but also when people are buying a phone they want the newest and best type of phone and if it is the same as the people with a contract a month ago it doesn't sound as appealing. People want what they think is a good deal so the better the upgrades the more you will sell

I guess this year will show us how fast the mobile phone industry is growing! I hooked up with Tmobile on an 18mth contract in NOV last year! I am due an upgrade in OCT which is good news. I am looking at the new handsets that i might get!

My Cingular/ATT guy recommends NOT going with a contract (of course he does this when his co-workers aren't listening). He doesn't even have one. Buy the phone outright, you can get them cheap on Ebay or Craigslist. Just pay for the service monthly.

understand your concern.
but they make the money on the two year contract.
All the other stuff is given to you free to guarantee a revenue stream.
All the cell companies are bull$$it artists.

THIS IS WHY I DON'T USE CONTRACTS lol just simply use pay as you go so you can cancel your plan when ever you want. I'd recommend cingular's pay as you go network.
