I have several different wi-fi devices (PDA, Smartphone). I know that if I am in a hotspot (library, coffee shop, etc... ), I can use my device. I was wondering if I am over my friends house can i still be able to use the wi-fi capabilities?

That's the beauty of WiFi, it is a standard which works where there is an Access Point. So if you have wifi you can connect where wifi is available! Yes you can use it if you friends allow you to.

If you are using a true HotSpot and not a cell phone transmission then you will have no problem.
