Not sure exactly what you're getting at but I'll run with the theory and say this. The same reason that this government once supported Saddam Hussein. The same reason this government once gave money, arms, and support, to Bin Laden. The same reason we arm and fund South American Rebels and train their leaders at the School of Americas. The same reason we use Israel as our own personal mercenary state. It only becomes "terrorist activity" if it's against the what the United States wants regardless of any other factors.

Fatah is a secular group, as opposed to being fundamentalists. In addition, Fatah, prior to the Palestinians' election, had expressed a desire to hold peace talks with Israel. That's why America and the UK and of course Israel was hopeful that Fatah would get voted in.

Hamas is more fanatical than Fatah, and has vowed publicly to wipe Israel off the map.

Let's be clear that neither Fatah nor Hamas are the 'good guys' and both are guilty of terrible things. But as somebody correctly says in one answer here, Fatah are simply the lesser of two evils. Even so, they are not to be trusted in the long term, probably.

Because as hard as it is to believe, Al Fatah, who was founded by Yassar Arafat, isn't as bad a terrorist organization as Hamas!

Somewhere along the line, Fatah took $40million of CIA money and sold the Palestinian people out. They are now Israeli Quislings.

This is crazy. You don't support terrorists, and please do not give them weapons.

I think Bush feels if our Country would support them it will ease the tension in Palestine, and buy Israel some time.

I disagree with Bush policy. He knows according to Bible Prophecy states that any one that stands against Israel then the wrath of God will come down on this Country and all that support issues against Israel.

The Gaza strip belongs to Israel not Palestine's. God says,"I will wipe you off the face of this earth, if you touch my people and Israel." For Israel belongs to God and His chosen people The Jewish Nation.

Because America needs Arab oil, and the "technocrat" Abbas offers an image of "moderation" in comparison to Hamas or Hizbullah.

Because they're the lesser of two evils, and when that's your choice, you pick it.

Kind of like the last two Presidential elections in the U.S.
