It sounds as though you have a little soul searching to do. It isn't up to anyone else to tell you what pet to get or whether, in fact, you want a pet at all.
It's up to you!
Only you know how you feel about the responsibility of caring for an animal long term. Any pet needs feeding and watering as well as it's health matters, coat and bedding cared for.
In addition to this a dog needs exercise and company.
Do you spend most of your time at home? If not then whichever pet you get will be spending long periods of time at home on it's own.

I'd say that if you haven't had a pet before you should start small and fairly low-maintenance; something like a hamster or rabbit, to see if you can cope with the responsibility of looking after a pet. I have two Russian dwarf hamsters, and they are really easy to look after, even so, they still need fresh food and water every day, handling as much as possible to keep them tame and a complete cage clean at least once a week. A pet like a dog would take a lot more care and time to look after, so you should make sure you are prepared for it and look into all that it involves before you get a pet. Good luck!

Dogs, taken care of correctly are expensive and very time consuming. Can you afford to take the dog to a vet when it gets sick or hurt? Do you have the time (and patience) to put into training a dog? Both house training and obedience training? Really consider these things before adding a dog to your family.

Dogs need a lot of love and attention, are expensive and time consuming. Do u have someone to look after it if u go on holiday???
I much prefer cats, they are independent, dont need someone to be in the house alot and are alot less to worry about.
think carefully..x

it depends on what sort of person you are. dogs are great but it really depends on what sort of place you live in and how much time and money you're prepared to devote to it.
cats are more independent and they dont need as much attention.
or then there's the other usual animals like hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, gold fish, mice or rats.
or then there's the more unusual animals such as pet cockroaches (not like their cousins the common household cockroach plus they're cleaner), hermit crabs, walking fish or pet snakes.
it really just depends on what sort of person you are and how much time you're willing to devote to your new pet, as well as where you live. good luck on whatever pet you do decide to pick.

Dogs are great. Cats are smelly and a waste of money; who wants to buy a pet that buggers off every day and goes to visit anyone who'll feed it, maybe never to return?
Guinea pigs are excellent, too.

They're cute! They're gentle! They...make silly noises?

dogs are like children are you ready for that commitment? Cats are good value for money and they are independant its easier to go away for a couple of days having a cat rather than a dog that needs walking.

Cats are much easier. You can leave them alone and they will use a litter box. Dogs have to go outside. It is easier to find someone to come over and feed a cat if you go away.
