I am a 20 year old male.
Chris Benoit was my favorite wrestler.
I idolized him and respected him.
I still can't make sense of this tragedy.
My little cousin loved Chris Benoit as well.
He is only 8 years old right now.
He didn't understand why Benoit wasn't on ECW.
So I told him that Chris and his family had to go home.
Of course "home" meaning heaven.
He seemed to take it very well for his age.

i think your son is too young to know the truth. The cliche statement about your hero's is that you are always disappointed when you meet them. In this case finding out the reality is almost sickening not just disappointing.
Nevertheless, it is important to remember that your son's hero was the "Chris Benoit" character not the man. For this reason i would not confront your son and tell him to shun his hero. You should not take away any of his Chris Benoit merchandise (if he has any) as this will just lead to a discussion about the sworded details of his death.
Eventually, his feelings of hero worship will fade. Benoit will not be featured or even mentioned on wwe TV again: as your son is young he will soon forget Benoit and gain new favorate wrestlers.
It is inevitable that he will someday have to know the details of this issue. However, as Benoit's son was close to the age of your son it is probably better to shield him from it until his is older. Despite this, you may be forced into a discussion about his death if your son comes home from school with rumors about Benoit. If this happens you should have an open and honest conversation about Benoit's death: rumours can get out of control and make the situation appear even worse,
Additionally, i urge you to not punish the wwe by not allowing your son to watch the TV or buy the merchandise. They have handled this in a very respectful way according to the information they have had at the time decisions were made. The wwe will come over much criticism over the coming months. However, most wwe Superstars are great role models and you should not be put off by one isolated incident. Remember, wrestling on TV is fantasy just like any other TV show. The violence portrayed on TV is rarely repeated in real life.

hope this helps

Just don't tell him anything. Let him find out when he is old enough to understand that there are a lot of things that go on off cam. Chris Benoit is my hero. I am not going to condemn him for what he did because I don't really know what happened. There are many things that can make a person go crazy and I firmly believe that he was not sane when he did what he did. I feel really sad and your son should just feel sad and mourn his idol without getting confused and disillusioned. He is much too young to become disillusioned.

It's best to let the your 6 year old continue to like Chris Benoit. He's too young and fragile to understand or handle the real truth about what happened. Why traumatize him unnecessarily.

I wouldn't say nothing right now and after a while if he ask yo where's Chris just say he's not wrestling anymore. As he gets older and asked more questions you can explain the dangers of drugs and steroids to him(if that is the reason he died and did what he did). Good Luck and have a nice day.

In time, you son will hear about him. At that time, you need to explain to him the danger of steroids and all drugs for that matter. There is no reason for him to not think of him in a role model manner as far as his character went on TV. He needs to know that beyond the show, they are real people with real problems.

There is no reason a child that age needs to know all the gruesome details. Sometime when he is older you can explain what happened with his hero but right now I don't see a point to making him sad.

Going forward I would look for better role models than athletes or movie stars. They can be ok people but seriously there are better choices.

let your son figure it out for himself. Eventually he may figure it out and tell him that to never use steroids when playing sports and never hallucinate on anything. Eventually he may like a new superstar like The undertaker.
