I don't know if it's always possible to do that, without being rude. It takes a polite and good listener to listen. Some people have not learned to do that.
I tried to think about how I get people to listen, and I do have to be rude sometimes.

Grab them by the shoulders, look them in the eye, and shake them for emphasis. I wouldn't rule out crazed shouting.

lots of ppl will not listen to you even if you told them that there pants where on fire!!!. a lot of ppl at my job don't listen to me but i get the last word by telling them " i told you so" they don't like it, but screw them. just say your piece and if they don't listen.. stand back and watch the fire works and tell them "i told you so" works for me.
