The real political reason for knighting him was not because of his literal works but just to show the Muslims of the world that UK can give encouragement to any one who even if in his writing can say or go against the Muslims of the world, this was in reply to those Muslim countries who give titles to terrorist Muslim people like Osma bin Laden, who was given a title by some Muslim organization in Pakistan recently.

He wrote a few novels that have outstanding qualities. They are milestones in the centuries-old literary tradition of large parts of the world (Europe, India, Persia).
I was not on the selecting committee, but I think he also got the title because of the stoic way he lived with a death sentence pronounced and upheld by people who hang women and think hanging kids in public is normal. At the moment several dozens of children are on death row in Iran.
I hope the day will come that muslims all over the world take to the streets to protest against these deviationsssssssss.

He is a worthy and noted author who has contributed hugely to literature and the debate on religion. He is more worthy of a knighthood of anhy religious bigot I have come across. Well done to him I say - give him another one.
