A timely question. See the reference in the current issue of Scientific American. It covers what we know about how the brain stores memories. They aren't really stored as pictures, and the bandwidth that would be needed to interface all that data is huge. We're talking at least decades before we can do anything like what you're talking about. It would certainly be useful for communication, but has nothing to do with travel.

We can. But the thoughpatters translate into waves, not into flowes and trees.
So it's possible, but what you are saying is that you want different pictures.

The problem is that the brain is not a television. Just like you can't make the electrical signals that travel through your refridgerator paint you a picture of icecubes, the electrical signals in your brain don't mean 'flower' or 'tree' in a litteral sense.

A variation of this thought is expressed in the novel "Firefox" (By Craig Thomas and is source for my Y!A ID) where the aircraft has Thought Guided weapon systems.

Mankind is indeed in pursuit of that quest. It is called Brain-Machine Interface or Brain-Computer Interface. You can do searches with these keywords and you will find that it is quite possible. Our technologies are still in its infancy, so give it some time and you can see it for yourself.

BTW, Electroencephalography or EEG, in a sense does convert thoughts into images.

Signals through neurons of the brain travel slowly, they are measured in feet per second, light is measured in miles per second.
