Its idealism, young folks tend to believe more in ideals than in tha factual pragmatic solutions. Why when they get older one hell of allot of them end up being conservative.
PS. I was very liberal as a young man.

They are the television generation who believes everything they hear on TV. If there were no liberal bias, I would not get mad every time I hear a newscast on a major network. The socialists have said they would take over America without firing a shot. It has already happened. When their taxes go sky high to pay Social Security for old guys like me as well as my health care, they won't be able to afford their fancy electronic gadgets because every spare dollar they have will be taken by the government. We need to have it so people can see what the Europeans are rebelling against now to see that government does absolutely nothing well. I am for less government, not more. It goes back to the old adage, "Be careful what you ask for".

Very few people change their party preference once it has been formed, so this is bad news for republicans. Men may get more conservative with age but women as a group become more liberal. Over the last 25 years the most Republican age group in the country have been those who came of age during the years of Vietnam and its aftermath, not the old. If young people see the party in power making a mess they will give their allegiance to the party out of power.

Young people between 17-29 have been indoctrinated at liberal colleges and public run school systems. Young people between 17-29 however do not generate the kind of income it takes to live well, so of course they are all for government assistance.

The New York Times...know who agrees with them and who doesn't?..things don't change that much people are no different now..then any time
every generation goes to school..they are more liberal..
until they have to make a living..buy a house..have children
then they can see the tangibles..unless they insure idealism..doing whatever it is they do in the public sector.then liberalism is a survival mechanism.

This typical of youth. There is no mystery here, it has always been this way. There is an old saying that goes something like this. If you are young and not liberal you have no heart. If you are old and not conservative you have no sense. When we are young it is easy to be idealistic and sometime even blase. This changes as we grow and come to understand the real complexities of the world.

Well, if your young, who wants to take responsibility of medical bills? I'll just have the rich pay it, oh wait, if I have a job I pay taxes. So maybe I can get a family going and get food stamps and government housing, wow free food and free rent. If I vote republican soon all this will be taken away, incentive to vote democrat? Maybe... plus young people tend not to think that far. Anyone know a doctor who works non-profit? Anyone?

Winston Churchill once said if you were young and conservative you had no heart, if you were old and liberal you had no head.
Young people tend to be more idealistic and grow more practical over time. Plus while young they would benefit from those programs while as they get older they have to pay for them.
I was once a liberal myself; all went away when I had to make my first payroll.

Most young people have ALWAYS leaned to the left, especially college-aged ones. Many snap out of it after they obtain careers, family, and a broader knowledge of their world.
