There are an estimated 15 million Brazilians of direct Spanish descent with another 5 million of partial descent.[1] They are totally integrated into Brazilian society and nowadays most of them only speak Portuguese. Nonetheless, Spanish is the third most important language in Brazilian schools, after Portuguese and English. Spanish and Portuguese are the main languages of both Latin America and Brazil. A mixed language based on Portuguese and Spanish was developed in Brazil called Portuñol, which is used on the Brazilian borders with Spanish-speaking countries.
