my friend likes this guy from school and she is constanly talking about him. i know for a fact that he likes someone else but she is in denial and keeps trying to convince me and her self that he does. she has even started to send me texts saying " we need to think of a plan to get him to go out with me" i don't want to make her too sad but shes just making a fool of her self. how do i help her understand that it won't happen and to move on without completely crushing her?

If she's your friend then tell her the truth.

What's going to make her sadder? You telling her point-blank that he's not into her, or him confronting her & calling her a psycho? I've had both happen to me when I was young & naive, & I can honestly say that I prefer it when a friend is honest with me.

If she continues this way, it runs the risk of being even more unhealthy than it already is. You've tried being gentle, now it's time to be blunt. What if the girlfriend tries to start a fight? What if she (or him) starts talking about how crazy she is? Then not only is she suffering from a heartbreak, but she'd also have a reputation for being crazy or a "relationship wrecker".

Ask her if she wants the reputation of chasing guys, or would she like to have the reputation of being desirable and guys chasing her. If she starts playing those games, people will start thinking that she is desperate. That is a reputation that you definitely DO NOT want to get when you are in school!!! Then no one will want to go out with her!!

just tell her straight up that he doesn't like you. Tell her that she looks desperate and that you are just trying to help. You could either let her keep making a fool of herself or you could stop all of this and put yourself on the line. She will think back about how stupid she was being and how thankful she was so have you there to help her.
