Be hard on yourself. Every time you lie, correct it. You will overcome a lying habit and become someone we can trust. You have certainly been honest about your problem. Good for you!!!

See a counselor, you need to understand what underlies your behavior, in addition to not letting it rule your life. Just because you have an impulse to say something, does not mean you have to say it. Ask yourself why you want to say it. Decide if what you want to say is important enough to say, then say it, or don't say it. If you stop a lie that way, reward yourself. Your challenge is common, so don't punish yourself for it.

Also, try re-phrasing your statement. Don't say, "I told him he was really stupid!" Instead say, "I wanted to tell him he was stupid, but I didn't." You are saying what you felt, but without lying. That's also maturity. Another reward.

Perhaps you could start by recognizing your blessing in disguise. After all, honesty is the best policy. Some people just cannot make good liars. Maybe you are one of them. In that case, accept that and focus on capitalising on your other strengths, rather than embarrasing yourself attempting to pull off pathetic lies.

it is indeed hard to "cut down" what you have used to do.,i guess all you can do is to lessen your talking.,so to avoid lying and try to count 1-5 before you start to talk or share something..

call the police .. and then. lie to the cops..
i'm sure that might help..
or .. if you have a court appearance..
tell the judge flat out that you did not do it..
that might help also.. glad to help..
