When I used a tampon for the first time, it felt really uncomfortable. I just felt "off" all day. It takes a while to get use too. But after that, they work like a charm and you'll never want to go back to pads again.
Good luck!

It can hurt the first time. Use an absorbancy that is the smallest for your flow - start with a light one until you get the hang of it. Make sure you're relaxed. It's not life or death and there's a whole box for you to use until you get it right. Most people either sit on the toilet or put one foot on the toilet. Aim towards your lower back - not straight up. Vaginas aren't build straight, but often angled. You may have to try it a few times before you get it but once it's in properly you should have no pain when you sit and really not feel it in at all.

It didn't hurt too much for me the first time. It was more of a feeling of discomfort rather than pain.
To lessen the discomfort, you might want to relax while doing it. That way, your muscles would not tighten up, and the tampon would go in smoothly.
Also, on your first try, you might want to use it during the first couple of days of your period when you're relatively more lubricated for easier and less painful insertion.
And, make sure that your hands are clean to prevent any infection inside.

Hello Rainie.
I remember trying a tampon for the first time and I literally couldn't walk or sit down, and I thought I was too tight or something. BUT, if you push it in til the point where you can't anymore, and then try walking around and sitting, you shouldn't be able to feel it. If you can't, just stick to pads. Some people can't handle tampons, nor sex for that matter... but that's pretty rare. Just remember to push it in far enough, ok? But, MAKE SURE you leave the string hanging out of your vagina so that you can take out your tampon easily.
My problem overall basically was that I wasn't pushing it in far enough, and I could feel it between my tighter vaginal muscles. That's usually why it hurts for first timers.
From Rainy

It can hurt if it is not in properly. You might feel a little discomfort at the beginning, but it is not supposed to hurt. You aren't even supposed to feel them. Maybe you should try using a smaller tampon.

Honestly, it hurt a bit when I first tried one. Make sure you are bleeding enough to put one in. If it's too dry, it hurts. The "Pearl" ones are by far the easiest to use and hurt the least.

If it hurts the first time you used a tampoon its either:
a. you are using a tampoon bigger than your cervix canal
or
b. you probably inserted it too far that you broke your hymen
