Use only ceramic. Best results after you wash and use a hair dryer first that always flattens then use flat iron.

The only way to get maximum performance from a flat iron is to spend the extra money. A really good flat iron will run you about $200. It is definitely worth it. I've had mine for 3 years and it still works great. To achieve that silky super straight look you need to use lots of product in your hair and crank the heat on your flat iron. Leave the iron on your hair longer, only if you use a lot of product! This will eventually fry your hair, but hey, beauty is pain! Good luck!

OK I'm a Brit so I could be thinking of the wrong thing here!! I assume you are talking about an iron to do clothes??

If so, try a reflective ironing board!

well, a cheap iron just sucks, period. i like CHI its pretty much the best out there. and in that case i use CHI straightening products. just never straighten your hair without product in it. it will fry it and with product it makes it super shiney :D....BioSilk is a good product its kinda cheap too
