Qatar, the country

EDIT: English words. What must qualify them as English? Simply that are in the English dictionary, you mean?!

OK: qa-, qe-, qi-, qo-, qu- : hebrew and arabic words spelt this way are often Anglicised as k- or c-:
examples:
qalabah = same as callaba
Qaddish, qadi, qaimaqam, qalamdan = Kaddish, cadi, kaimakam, kalamdan
And the ones that retain their spellings are very definitely still not what you'd call English - qanat, qasida, qawwali, Qoran, qi - or else are abbreviations; qid, qty etc.

So, it is completely true there are no actual English words (in origin) that are CURRENTLY spelt without a 'u'. Things may have been different before our current spellings were formalised, but I don't know.

Or if this is a trick question with a trick answer, please put me out of my misery as to what you are talking about!

Qantas, the Australian airline.

Okay, so it's not a word, it's an acronym for Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service!

None in English - only Arabic-type words where the guttural is translitterated as q, kh, g or gh. Like al Qaeda or Colonel Gadaffi (sometimes spelt Khadaffy or similar).

Off the top of my head, no, but there are only 5 words in the entire English Dictionary that have that quality.

Lol...quality. Sorry...found that ironic.
