Intra-Spinal injections are administered right on your spinal column which is coated by CSF, or Cerebral Spinal Fluid. This fluid lubricates both your brain and spinal cord to avoid frictional injuries. When this fluid is contaminated it can lead to meningitis or inflammation of the brain. Some local anesthetics can have preservatives that lengthen their shelf life, these can cause the negative reaction mentioned. Good Luck, and insist on preservative free injections.

Some medicines use mercury as a preservatives to prevent growth of unwanted bacteria. In such cases, too much murcury can lead to mercury poisoning.
