This has been bothering me lately, but on the UK (Australian) cover of the book, who is it with Harry and Buckbeak? I've deduced that it is either Sirius or Hermione, but the image doesn't make it easy to tell who it is...

I do mean the UK version. Like other people have said, it's obvious that it's Hermione on the US version.

For people who question why it might be Sirius, the covers aren't always necessarily correct, eg. US Book 5, Harry uses the wrong hand to hold the wand.
UK Book 2, Harry and Ron are flying in a completely opposite direction to the train.
Sirius might have been flying with Harry for artistic purposes.

I wish I could find a better scan than the one below, but to me it looks like Harry in front, Hermione behind and leaning over him, and a dementor behind them both.
Like I say, the scan isn't good enough for me to really judge due to the fact that that's it's largest size on that site.

on the american cover, it's hermione on buckbeak with harry but sirius's shadow is at the bottom.

it's Hermione in the UK version too...Besides, why would it be Sirius..Harry didn't fly away along with him, did he?

Hermione is also on the UK version. It may not seem obvious, but it's definately her! I didn't know who it was in the beginning either! xx

On my book it is definately a girl, seeing as how Sirius was just out of Azkaban and not looking too clean.

well ...hermione is sitting with harry on buckbeak ..well its obvious ....and the lil shadow thing ....its sirius !!! because he is the Prisoner of askaban...well its the american version !!.....but i saw the UK one too ...its hermione ..because u can see her cloak in there !!...hope it clear it up !!
