Yes we take the S-Bahn (fast train) to the city in Germany then take the U-Bahn (subway) to the different parts of the city. It is a great low cost way to get around and it is environmentally friendly...
When your gas costs an incredible amount per litre, let alone gallon the train starts looking pretty good indeed.

Yes, I love trains. I've been on several. One time, I took a boat from Brighton shore to France and then this long, very long train ride to Paris. There was the cutest punk rocker boy reading Anne Sexton on the train. Another time, I took the Amtrack to Washington DC with my 8th grade class. All of my mini bottles of booze broke in the bag so we had to stage a collision with someone in the refreshments car to explain away the smell. I lived outside of NYC growing up, so I was on MetroNorth aot doing into the coty as a kid. That's hardly a train, but it still counts as one. Oh, the only train that I don't like is the Bart in California. It's too tall and is the only vehicle since our "sofa car" that made me have motion sickness. But I do love trains. My husband and I used to fish by the traintracks in Mystic when we first met. There is something just so simple and restful about them.

Yes, I have relatives in Washington DC and the surrounding suburbs. We'll drive into Annapolis, MD and take the Amtrak into New York City to see Broadway/off Broadway shows, go to clubs, shop, etc.

Other train rides I've been on are the tourist/novelty kind. For example I took a train ride up Pike's Peak (CO). Kinda laime I know...but it was when I was a kid.

Sure, Am-track in California and in High speed train in Germany and regular train all over Scotland.

The train is a cool way to go especially in places where it is a major mode of transportation. In the USA it is kind of a pain, but still fun.

As a child, every summer I would take a train ride to New York to spend the summer, with my very proper grandmother. She came down to pick me up. I didn't travel alone. I loved it.

Yes I was on the Silver Meteor, The one that de-railed, luckily I rode it a few weeks before it de-railed. I went to Florida on it, it rocked back and forth the whole time. You get motion sickness from it, not while on it but when you get off and the level ground seems to be moving up and down you are trying to walk on, WOW!
I nearly fell down the stations' stairs! I can't remember when that was maybe early 90's?
