Doesnt it seem like EVERYONE is now having uncommon names or unusual spellings? Everyone critiques them saying things like "your kid will hate you" but isnt everyone like that now, so that nobody will be so unusual anymore? Arent names like Tyler and Anne and Amy going to be outdated like Phyllis would be today? Plus when i grew up, the kids with the "cool" names were usually the "cool" kids. Does anybody else feel like we are coming to this in society?

I am 34, and I was the ONLY kid in school who had a name my mom made up.
No I don't hate her. I love my name. HOWEVER, I am in a profession where I meet new people every day, and at least one person a day asks for clarification on my name, and why it's spelled the way it's spelled.
Julia Roberts named her kid Hazel... not a very common name anymore. Definitely old fashioned, and kinda ugly sounding. But after a while it sounds cute. Have some friends that named their little girl Helen, and she looks like a Helen.
I think some of the old stuff will be new again. But if you look back 500 yrs, there were completely different names. Take Boadicea for example... a Scottish Queens name, pronounced Boo Dih Kuh. Who would name their kid that these days? No one, it's definitely out!

I'm 35 years young and remember the kids that were "cool" all had normal names like Jennifer, Kimberly, Jason and Mike. IMO, kids are still kids, and will be cruel no matter how "common" or "uncommon" a name is. And todays young professionals will still look at someoone with a strangely spelled name and wonder about taking them seriously.

I agree that many people are getting creative with names and updating spellings of classics. I must say though that I have an unusual name and most people can't pronounce it. I have found it to be a burden always having to teach people how to say my name. This is a fad for this season who knows wha t the next trend will be.

I am an Indian numerologist and astrologer......
EVOLUTION is one unstopabble thing on earth.....
Naming is no exception.....
If there is no EVOLUTION in naming, then there would be a million CAESARs, a billion SMITHs, and a trillion JOHNs..
The ultimate purpose of a name is to identify a person...
By using same old names,we can never identify a person...
So modern names r good for society....but names considered cool depend on the specific locality.
Ex:"Leonardo" may be considered a cool name in U.S.
But it is the same old name in Spain...

Some uncommon names are nice. Others are just plain weird or are spelled weird.
