why not put all the injured players on the 15 day DL?
if you put them on the 60 day you would have to wait 60 days and not 15

If a player is put on the 60-day DL, he is exempted from being counted towards the 40-man roster limit (i.e. the players who can be transferred to the major league team). Players on the 15-day DL count towards the 40-man limit. Sometimes putting a player on the 60-day DL allows a team to delay a decision about releasing a player.

Thomas M has it. Players on the 60-day DL don't impact the 40-man major league roster. Players on the 15-day DL, do.

There is no 30-day DL in baseball.

There used to be a 21-day, when the 15-day was capped at two players, but that was done away with around 1990. Neither the 15-day nor the 60-day have stated player capacity limits.

I believe that there is a limit of how many players you can put on the 15-day DL, and this is the case for the 30-day DL as well. This is why you'll see teams move players from the 15-day DL to the 30 or 60 DL, especially when new injuries occur. Suppose you have a player with an injury which will put him out for 4 weeks, and he is placed on the 15-day DL. If another player pulls a hamstring, the player with the 4-week injury may be moved to a different DL to make room for the new injury. It's not uncommon for teams to do this. Usually teams place players on the 15-day DL to begin with, until they are fairly certain how long the player will be out.

There is a 15 day DL, a 30 day DL and a 60 day dl. An injured player can be put on the one which is most appropriate.

umm some players have serious injuries so they put them on the 60 DL which is available...so when they do that the injured players are not on the active roster and the team and can bring in and send out as many players as they want during the 60 days

cause if you put them on the 15 day DL and they have a broken wrist and is out 6 - 8 weeks...your still lookin at 56 days at the most plus all the re-hab time that it would take them. Also this way they don't need to put him on the DL over and over again
